Should blood have covered your pad in an hour?

I'm on my 4th period and it's the worst one yet. Whenever blood comes out, it feels as if I'm wetting myself and trust me it's literally like every 6 secs. My pad is almost completely filled by the time an hour has passed. I hate feeling as if I'm wetting myself so should I get tampons and if so, how do I ask my mum for them? Also, is this too heavy?
